How to Make a Marshall Paw Patrol Pup Birthday Cake - Video Cake Decorating Tutorial #1

Paw Patrol Cake Decorating Video Tutorial

Marshall Paw Patrol Pup Birthday Cake

Marshall Paw Patrol Pup Birthday Cake Face
Last week, my lovely niece turned 4 years old (where does the time go?) and she is absolutely mad about Paw Patrol. She’s been talking about having a Marshall Birthday Cake at her Paw Patrol party for, well, almost a year. And for it to be absolutely paw-perfect, it had to be of her favourite pup, which is Marshall

Paw Patrol Cake Decorating Video Tutorial

So, I've filmed a step-by-step cake decorating video tutorial on how I made this Marshall Paw Patrol cake, just click on the picture below to view!
If you're thinking that you could never do something like this, it may surprise you to know that this was my first attempt at a 3D character cake. My video breaks it down into "bite-size" (excuse the pun) steps, and I show you all the little tips and tricks I used such as using mini-flower cutters for Marhsall's Dalmatian spots.
Making this cake was a labour of love (just over 20 hours to complete) but so worth it for the look on her face when she saw it. And was so thrilled with the way it turned out.

Edible Elements

All the elements were edible, something my niece can attest to when she ate Marshall's fire-pup shield! And, if you watch the video to the end, you can see what I used to make the "glass" in Marshall's torch.

Would love to know what special birthday cakes you've made, do let me know in the comments below.

Pretty Strawberries & Cream Cupcakes

Little baby Lucia came to visit the other day, so what better way to celebrate than with these pretty strawberries and cream cupcakes (which, with Wimbledon approaching, is UK-summer in cupcake form).

Cake Topper Recipe:
Paper & Card: K&Company Sparkly Sweet, pink pearlescent, white textured
Tools: Silhouette Cameo
Embellishments: double satin ribbon 10mm, wooden toothpicks

I used my Silhouette Cameo to make these toppers, cutting the scallop circles and elephant ears in pink pearl card, the circle in white textured card, the elephant in glittered K & Company Sparkly Sweet designer card.  I cut twice the number required of scalloped circles so that I had a front and back.

To ensemble, first make the top layer, stick the ear onto the elephant with PVA glue then use small foam pads to elevate it off the white circle layer.  Use PVA glue to stick the white circle to a pink scallop circle.

Then, attach 3 large foam pads to the back of one of the scallop circles, remove the paper covers and smear each pad with a glue stick.  This means that the pads will have some manoeuvrability when you need to align the two scallop circles together.  Apply a generous blob of PVA glue and place in a toothpick.  Add your topper layer and fiddle to align properly.  Leave aside to dry fully (I left mine overnight).  Finally, tie a small amount of pretty satin ribbon at the top of the toothpick and trim.

Ta Da – the prettiest little toppers that make any cupcake party-ready!  However, I recommend my delicious Strawberries and Cream Cupcakes - they are light and tasty, here's the recipe.

Elegant Ivory & Lavender Sugarpaste Celebration Cake

I love making celebration cakes, beautifully decorated in fantasy sugarpaste flowers. I had this idea of using large, overblown flowers on my Mother’s 80th Birthday celebration cake, in soft subtle tones of ivory and lavender.

I made the sugarpaste flowers by cutting a flower shape in 3 sizes on my new Cricut Cake Machine. I used three four different sized bowls dusted with cornflower to act as formers, after shaping the petals with a cone tool (I know I’m meant to use a ball tool but personally I get a better result at thinning and ruffling the edges with a cone tool).

The flower centres were made from edible pearls using a half ball mold. I coloured the lavender pearls myself, using a small amount of SugarFlair paste in grape onto white pearls – I’m very happy with the end result and it means that you can always have pearls coordinating with my chosen sugarpaste colour. The soft sheen on the cake and flowers is achieved by using PME Pearl Lustre Spray – I am seriously addicted to my pearl spray and gun!

Most importantly, my Mum loved her birthday cake and I was very happy with how it looked.
