Baby's First Birthday Cake

Now this was a great fun cake decorating project - a Baby's First Birthday cake for my lovely niece Lucia!
Baby Girl 1st Birthday Vake with fondant Teddy Bear, Elephant, Rabbit & Baby Block Initials First

I really love modelling with fondant and sugarpaste, and was delighted to make this sweet Baby Girl Birthday cake.

Here's a close up of the Fondant Teddy Bear.  As this was for my niece, I accented my Bear with pink fondant, but you could just as easily choose blue to make a Boy Teddy (wouldn't add the little flower on her head if she was to become he, though!).

I also wanted the sugarpaste figures to have the feel of hand-stitched toys, so I added piercing details to the ears, paws and bib-work.
The number 1 on the elephant and the heart and flower on the Teddy were cut with an fondant cutters, all the other elements I made myself.

I think my Rabbit was feeling a bit merry, she may have had one too many glasses of champagne to celebrate as she's at a very slight tilt!

Here they all are together, waiting to head off to the party....
And here's the best bit, just look at her little face:-)
